It is so tentative, even to be
unlikely when a tree buds within
cold, dark recesses of
early spring.
Not like the cat leaping from a
tall building, landing on
all fours again and again. Not
water, gushing from eaves to form
sudden whirlpools in a muddy
enclave near my front door.
Not lightning, undeniable energy.
The bud trembles in its
limelight, there on a cautious
tip of the branch. It is shy.
Tiptoes on stage with an
apology framed in stunning
color. Gasps at its
noticeability…. in time
gains poise.
It stiffens in texture, deepens
in color. No one can deny its
right to exist now, not even
nature itself.
